Waterloo leisure centres are among the hottest in UK

Waterloo has announced the number of water centres it is opening to tourists has doubled since 2015.
The leisure centre in the city centre is among the 10 to 15 most visited in the UK, according to VisitWaterloo.
In the past year alone, Waterloo’s number of leisure centres has risen from 1,878 to 2,547.
Its number of visitors has also risen, from 785 in 2015 to 1,095 in 2016.
“We have been able to increase the number to meet the demand of visitors,” said Steve Evans, head of visitor services.
He added that the number had more than doubled since last year, due to the “unparalleled level of interest” from visitors to the leisure centres.
Waterloo has already opened a number of new leisure centres in the past 12 months, including a leisure centre near the city of Luton and a water centre in London.
It opened a water park at Luton, which attracted an estimated 1,000 visitors a day in April.
Mr Evans said the leisure centre at Lutland is the only one in England with a separate water park.
This is a first in the country.
“We will soon be opening a waterpark in Luton,” he said.
A spokeswoman for Waterloo said the number was “an indication of demand” for leisure centres, which they hoped to open by the end of the year.
Many of the water centres, including one in Kent, were built with the intention of attracting tourists.
But water tourism is in decline in the rest of the country, according the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
According to the Society, about 80 per cent of water tourism visitors come from Europe, Asia and Africa.
There are no plans to open a new water park in the capital.
